Shutters in Berkhamsted
A market town of narrow High Street frontages, Victorian terraces on the hillsides and large modern houses above the canal.

Berkhamsted's High Street conservation area runs the length of the town, and the buildings behind those frontages are mixed: timber framed and Georgian at the core, Victorian infill either side. Windows are often small, tall and irregular, sometimes with cills that are not level, and the practical answer is a shutter built to a surveyed opening with a frame that takes up the discrepancy rather than a square panel that shows every millimetre of it.
The land rises steeply on both sides of the valley, so the Victorian and Edwardian terraces on the north and south slopes look directly into one another across the town. Privacy is the driver here far more than light control, which is why tier on tier is the most requested style: the lower panels close for privacy while the upper panels stay open for daylight.
Above the town, towards the Ashridge estate and along the newer roads off Kingshill Way, the housing is larger and later, with wide casements, patio sliders and garden rooms. Those rooms are usually about heat and glare as much as privacy, so a wider louvre and a full height panel gives the best control.
Every job starts with a home consultation, and nothing is ordered until a full technical survey has been done and the price is confirmed. Installation is by our trusted team, and every shutter is backed by our ten-year guarantee.
